Orange Pine Syrup

Orange peel and pinecones both have medicinal properties that are great for kids and adults when they’re sick! From vitamins & minerals to respiratory help, pine syrup has it all. Specifically vitamin C and A. In fact, the pinecone has the same shape as the pineal gland in our head, which carries the most blood next to the kidney.

Ingredients:

10 to 15 young green sugar pinecones. I’m still learning but I’m sure you can use any kind of pinecones just research first.

1-1 1/2 c honey or sugar

1-1/2 c water

1-2 tsp Orange Zest

Stainless steel cheese grater

Reusable k cup stainless mess filter, cheesecloth, tea infused or any filter for straining Syrup at end.

First, I boil the water and honey/sugar which ever you choose this is the base for your syrup.

Next, Cut your green pinecones into 3 to 4 pieces. Then, pour your boiling water sugar mixture over your pinecones into a glass mason jar.

Use an organic orange and a cheese grater to make 1-2 teaspoons of orange zest. Add the orange zest to the mason jar.

Tightly close your glass mason jar with a canning lid and shake it around.

Refridgerate for 4-5 days

Strain your syrup & can freeze for pops when you’re sick, as an immune booster. I added the syrup to my sun tea. Use your syrup anywhere you could normally use maple. At first the pinecone scent is strong, but after a few days the orange zest mixes with the syrup and it becomes a really sweet flavored orange syrup!

If you want to backtrack, you could take out the sugar and make a pinecone oil with a filler oil like grape seed, add it to beeswax for a vapor rub.
